  • Observing and documenting a child’s development helps the learning professional identify the childs strengths, as well as areas for opportunity for growth. This is how learning professionals are able to create curriculums specific to the needs of the children in their class.

Screen time should be strictly limited or completely non-existent in a professional childcare center. The focus should be child engagement.

  • Free time allows children to engage in various different activities within their interests. This would be a good setting for engaging in “serve and return” on their terms weather its reading a book they choose, playing with a toy or role playing.

“Hi Mrs. Hopkins. Before you leave I would like to speak with you briefly about our pick up policy. First let me start by saying I love having your child in my class. It seems lately you have struggled with picking him/her up on time. But this isn’t always the case. Has there been a shift in your work schedule or is there another factor that is preventing you from arriving at the designated pick up time? I would love to work with you to find ways to better support you in these efforts.”

    1. Which WACs address diversity and collaboration with families? 110-300-0160 – Promoting acceptance of diversity
    2. What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? provider must provide culturally and racially diverse
learning opportunities. Diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that
represent all children, families, and staff

    Strongly Agree:

A multicultural education curriculum should be in place in every school

All learning programs should accommodate all children with special needs

My curriculum should be based on each individual child’s current interests.

Diversity definitely includes race and culture, but doesn’t include age, ability or family make-up.

    Disagree:

Media in general delivers fair and accurate accounts of events around the country.

    Strongly Disagree:

Families should not be expected to be involved in classroom activities

Some extended family members may confuse children, so they should not have a voice in raising or educating the child.

1.) There are many outlines rules that provide a broad range of guidance for most all situations.

2.) I don’t know that I was surprised by any of the WACs except for the ones that provided actual definitions to verbiage and terms used on a day to day basis (WAC 110-300-0005). I found it impressive these have all been broken down into a concise, black and white explanation to ensure the meaning in our communications is universal.

3.) Absolutely. It is a strong reminder that each individual is responsible for what they do. We are all held accountable and we must keep ourselves informed and educated in alliance with WAC rules and guidelines.
