My kids love to help to clean many ask if they can sweep when snack is over and they make sure to clean up their space before moving from the table. they always ask how they can help clean when they are done eating and also they wash there hands when they are done too.

Cleaning is not an option; it’s a built-in part of the classroom routine. We work to make it something children do naturally, without even thinking about it—because it’s an expectation, not a choice. The goal is for children to understand that leaving a mess is not acceptable and that caring for their environment is part of their responsibility and independence.

We sing fun clean up songs

When I get new littles into my class, I like to play “ glitter germs” Put a little bit of glitter on your hands and shake or high-five kids hands. Touch objects too. Then ask “where did the germs go?” Show how washing with just water doesn’t work. Show how soap makes the glitter germs disappear. Kids love seeing this and it really sticks.

The more effective way for my class is to pump the liquid soap on their hands and while they are waiting in line they play with the soap like slime.

I started adding roles in the classroom to incorporate cleaning roles. I also started explaining to them each of their roles and what their job to is.

With my children I usually make it a game to see how fast we can clean up the room. With hand washing when I was a preschool lead I would regularly do an activity where I covered their hands in glitter and had them practice washing all the “germs” off

I use – Clean House Drawing Game- that allow children to draw a messy room and then asking them to add their own pictures — then after I ask children to clean their tables and wash their hands.

I had stickers that kids didn’t want on their hands and told them to wash their hands until they all fall off and then replaced it with ones that they did want!

At my work i like to play a game to clean up we all find something that had the certain colors i call out in it and the child finds 3 of those toys and puts them away.

I love seeing all these ideas here for hygiene. We have a song for handwashing that lasts the length of time they should wash their hands for. Sometimes we get the kids involved with cleaning tables. They love to help out.

we play a game called germ buster and its where I take a black light and shine it on the kids hands and after they see how dirty their hands are the go and bust the germs by washing their hands with soap and water.

We have a fun handwashing song that we sing and I engage the children’s help in washing the tables before meals. We talk frequently about how washing the germs away keeps everyone healthy.

We talk about the importance of hand washing and about the germs that can live on our hands, we also talk about how it’s important to clean our tables before and after eating.
