Doing this activity, shows me how the WAC is like a guide book for educators. It should be referenced by you your staff and implemented everyday.

I was surprised to see how many administrative codes there are. I think the quantity of guidance and requirements will influence my day-to-day functioning by causing me to be regularly thinking about the codes and asking if I’m complying with them. This will shape my daily routine for cleaning, records, and many aspects of how I function.

I was not surprised by the WAC regulations themself, I was more so surprised (in a good way) at how thorough the regulations are, especially regarding licensing. It makes me feel good that there are many regulations for this state because it shows how serious child care is and how serious it needs to be taken. This tremendously influences our day-to-day because we should be consistently checking in and making sure we are adhering to those regulations and implementing the best practices at all times. I will definitely be referring to the WAC frequently and will make sure to keep that knowledge fresh in my mind.

I discovered that the WACs cover just about everything that could apply to children in early learning settings, and I was surprised that each individual WAC covered such a minute area of importance., rather than being more broad guidelines. I do see how the WACs influence my day to day; I see now that they regulate injury procedures at my current workplace.

Referring to the WAC is very helpful, and provides an unquestionable path to safe and effective childcare. My favorite section addresses cultural diversity, and I intend to expand on that for my own knowledge, as I have many students and staff of varying cultures.

I’ve been working in childcare for many years so the WAC’s were nothing new to me. I feel like all the information is very needed and important.

I learned how detailed and considered the information is in these standards. I wasn’t surprised by any of them. I think that knowing them is really important now I understand the reasoning behind some of the practices of the classrooms I assist in and can also use them as a reference for going forward but believe the guidelines I have been given to opporate in in the classrooms I work in fully support and comply with the WACs.

I learned a lot from the WACs laws and regulations, this helped me with the understanding of a lot of different things. It heled me understand that it is very important to follow these regulations in making sure all is good with the facility. Making sure you have different objects in place is very important.

After completing the activity I don’t believe I was very surprised by any of the WACs because when working with children there must be many rules in place. It will definitely influence my day-to-day practice with children because everything is applicable. For example, family partnerships and communication is huge and something that I experience everyday. Having positive, open and respectful communication is key for the success of the child’s development and a healthy and trusting relationship with the parents. Staff oversight and records and such is an example of something that I would not be using as of now, since I am not the director of the school, but is still interesting to read over.

I discovered that there are so many rules and things that we need to succeed in having a peaceful work environment and a safe place for children. It is good to have that big knowledgeable resources to look back on and it is even good to show new people working in a childcare setting. Some things are easy to understand and it seems like, who wouldn’t know this but I am always shocked and surprised when people do not know how to work with children or it is their first time do not know these things. So going back and showing them these things are important for a good and healthy environment and safe environment for the childcare place. I was reading some interesting WAC recourses and some of them definitely reminded me to influence my day to day practice when caring for children. I like that I can go back and check things out if needed which is so helpful if I am needed a refresher on what the expectations are.

None of the WACs were surprising, child safety having a lot of rules makes a lot of sense, and all of the rules that were given all made sense, the only thing I thought was surprising was that 14 year olds can work at care centers as aids. For me I didn’t really think of younger children as fragile and susceptible to the world as they really are, I haven’t interacted with young children for long periods of time before and reading all of the WACs it makes sense how many regulations kids have, but it’s also eye opening for how I should be treating kids.

I do see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day life working at a child development center, it adds a lot more depth and helpful information kind of explaining why we do what we do, why snack, lunch, nap, and playground time are all set at the times they are and why we do them in specific orders, etc. I think the only thing that was somewhat surprising to me was how in detail some of the laws were, for example, gardens at the center where the water used in the garden is regulated and certain plants and types of soil are allowed and not allowed- and its very interesting to know that even this is regulated and part of becoming licensed, which all makes sense but was just slightly surprising to see.

Something I learned from the WACs was that Its pretty common knowledge for people who have been in a work environment for child care. I was surprised at the amount of information for each segment provides. I can see how the WACs helps will help influence the every day day to base classroom.
