I found out there is lots of information that I use daily from WAC. What surprised me most was the detail that can be found in each code. For example WAC 110-300-0005 is dedicated to definitions but this is completely necessary for review. I use the WAC codes often, for example I was asked if a parent can bring lip balm for their child. I had to refer to the WAC code for reference before I could answer the parent. I just want to make sure I was giving the correct information and keeping everyone safe.

I learned many new things during the WAC activity and definitely see how they will impact my daily care for children and find comfort in the resource. I think overall, there was a bit more to them than I initially realized, but I can’t say that is surprising when you are shaping little minds!

I found it interesting to learn what was exempt from needing a license vs not. I’ve worked with children since was 19 and my first job, I didn’t need a license. Everything else I feel isn’t unexpected. I enjoyed reading it all actually.

    1. I discovered just how succinctly they outline every little nuance of day to day child care. There is an answer to every single question relating to this profession that I have ever had, all outlined neatly in the WAC.

    2. I was quite surprised that any/all restraint needs to be reported. I had worked in previous facilities and this was not implemented, which I thought was odd but didn’t have the knowledge to back up the feeling. Having this training prior would have given me much more insight and would have allowed me to do my job more effectively for the children.

    3. It is vey easy to see how the WAC’s will influence my day to day caring of the children. As I mentioned previously, the WAC outlines every nuance in perfect detail. It is concise and clear regarding our responsibilities as child care professionals and I am grateful to have had the chance to familiarize myself in such an in-depth manner. The WAC leaves no excuse to be ignorant of all-important requirements and leaves no room for arguments regarding how best to care for children.

I don’t think I understand what the questions each WAC supposedly has are. Where do you find these?

I was very surprised about the section regarding restraining children, that even in very minor cases of restraint that you do need to make a report. It is good to know where to be able to find WAC seeing as I was not exactly sure before.

I discovered that the WACs are for early learning can be found in a document called the Child Care Center Licensing <font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”>Guidebook or the Family Home Child Care Licensing Guide as well as online. I was not </font>surprised<font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”> by any of the WACs. I can see how the WACs </font>will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children because as a staff member in a program it is my responsibility to know the WACs so that I can implement the requirements of licensing.

    1. While completing the WAC assignment, I discovered that there are many things that go into providing a safe environment within being a child educator. I wasn’t necessarily surprised by any of the laws going into a career such as this. After completing the WACs assignment, I know that my day-to-day knowledge of my responsibilities as a teacher will help me to provide said safe environment. 1. What I discovered about WAC after doing the activity was that I’ve gained a lot more knowledge about its guidelines and that there are many resources out there if you were to need help with anything!

    2. I was mainly surprised by how important their guidelines were, and how many resources are out there

    3. I can definitely see how WAC would influence my day-to-day practice with caring for children, it helped me gain more consciousness towards giving high-quality care to them and giving me a clear resource on how to prominently always have a secure and healthy learning environment.

I found the WAC to be a very detailed and great resource to reference when needed. What surprised me a little bit is the number of rules and regulations that goes into a childcare. I can see how it can influence my daily life as this resource can help make decisions. If I am ever in doubt about a decision coming back to the WAC and using it can help me.

WAC does influence our day-to-day interactions with the kids:

    – EX:

There are postings about allergies and exits (Etc) – the kids see these signs and ask about them and what we do about the topic.

Encourages us to promote the health, safety, and wellness of all of the children.

All of the training allows us to improve upon our child service skills.

When learning about the WACs, it didn’t really take me by surprise. Our job as educators is a very hard working and dedicating position. There is a lot that goes into it and requirements needing to be met to ensure a safe a positive environment for youth. Knowing and understanding what the WAC entails, will help this be achievable and guide us. It is a great resource to go back and make sure we are taking the correct course of action when needing to make certain decisions.

After reviewing the WAC I discovered that there is a lot to learn. I learned a tremendous amount. Although there was a lot to learn, none of the WAC surprised me as I believe they are all very important. I can most definitely see how these influence my day-to-day, and how important it is to abide by each and every one of them.
