I looked through the WAC and there pretty much isn’t that much of a surprise to me but it’s the expected rules that every childcare should follow and staff

I discovered that WACs are much easier to understand than I previously thought. I thought they were a little intimidating at first, but this exercise helped me to see that they are pretty straightforward. There are so many types of licensing, and they all depend on the kind of center you work at. The WACs give you information on how to run the center. It’s not necessarily surprising, but it is helpful in remembering the proper ways things should be handled.

I think that the WACs were not necessarily surprising but very important. Being an employee and not someone who has to do the hiring and informing people about trainings and when they need to be done by, I am learning a lot more. I also find that rules and regulations when working with children seem to be a no brainer so they are not surprising.

It is good that you feel you can use the WAC’s to help you. Most facilities will have employees sign a statement that they have read and understand the state regulations. When licensors visit, they will expect that all staff know the rules and policies.

1. One thing I discovered was how specific each of the WACs are and how many issues are covered by them. I think that this specificity is very important so that there is little possibility for misinterpretation.

2. I was surprised to read that there are possibilities to become exempt from licensing standards. It makes sense as to why this is a possibility, it was just never something that crossed my mind.

3. Yes, I can see this very much affecting my day-to-day practice. It will definitely influence the way I interact and learn about the children. I think its great how specific it is. One WAC that stood out to me was the family support and self assessment. Knowing where the communities fall short will help when deciding what to enhance in the program.

felt like WAC is the MSDS of early learning, there is a wealth of information in WAC that will keep your center running smoothly and lawfully.

BTW MSDS means = material safety data sheet. any time you work with chemicals at the work place, it is your right to know what harmful effects can be caused while using those products.

I learned that if you want to be a care giver in Washington state there are many responsibilities that goes around child care. I am not sure about other states but reading the WACs it like a lot of info that is helpful but also many thing that you did not know it was important.

learned that there are a lot more WACs/ rules and regulations than I had thought. I was surprised by the amount of training requirements and in-service training required. I am not sure this knowledge will effect my day to day routine but it does help me be more aware of what it takes to be a daycare professional.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that it takes a lot of rules/regulations to make sure the children and professionals within the Early Learning field are safe.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Yes, some of the regulations were shocking as I didn’t know initially how much it took to be able to even run a childcare center.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, it will help me build a safe relationship when it comes to teaching and learning more about the Early Learning profession.

With how detailed WAC is, I could see there being many factors with my everyday work with children that I would be able to reference back to. I also could see why they have many details to assure a safe environment.

The main thing I learned doing this activity was that the WAC are very detailed. It was easy for me to understand. I was surprised by how much each Wac could be used in my daily activity and I can see that many aspects of my day to day duties are addressed by the WAC. I am glad to see that if I have a concern about any of my day to day routines I can always check the WAC’s before going to the licensor or the responsible of the facility. The WACs are indispensable resources for childcare providers main thing I learned doing this activity was that the WACs are very detailed. It was easy for me to understand. I was surprised by how much each Wac could be used in my daily activity and I can see that many aspects of my day to day duties are addressed by the WAC. I am glad to see that if I have a concern about any of my day to day routine I can always check the WAC’s before going to the licensor or the responsible of the facility. 1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that there is a reason behind each thing my boss does at our program. From what is posted on the walls to where the cleaning bottles need to go.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was not surprised by any of the WACS
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, I can see how the WAC will influence my practice with children. Many of the WACs are rules that I need to follow to stay compliant and to keep my students safe.

WAC will influence my day to day activities by reminding me to stay professional, document any issues or concerns, keep important papers accessible. It will help keep me accountable for my responsibilities as a lead teacher and role model for our children.

I was surprised how detailed the rules and regulations are for maintaining a healthy learning environment, as well as keeping all records straight and accessible. Licensing requirements are steep, but all are needed. I wasn’t surprised by most of the regulations on posting things like dietary, allergies, emergency numbers, floor plans ect..

reading about WAC made me realize the amount of resources that we have at our disposal. It also made me realize how many factors there are in providing good, safe care to children.
