1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I’ve learned so much from the WACs and I think is a wonderful resource to be informed of all regulations regards Early Education so all the educators and staff can offer a better service. I was impressed about how many details and subjects they had, lots of them I was familiar with, some was totally new to me, and a few came as a reminder.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? Yes. The WAC 0465 (Retaining Facility and Program Record) I did not know that early learning provider must keep the attendance records for minimum of 5 years, also all the monthly inspection regards safety as smoke detector, food temperature, annual fire inspection and much more. WAC 0100 (Geral Staff Qualification) I was surprised that assistant teacher can be in charge of the classroom up to 2 weeks max in case the Lead Teacher isn’t available…after 2 week we need to report to the Departament with a plan to manage the classroom. WAC 0005(Definitions) I was happy to see terms that I wasn’t familiar with and with the ones that were updates with our scenario as an example: “Nonbinary”and many others.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? 100% I see the WACs as tools to reinforce the safety, health and educational to children and prepare “us” professionals to deal with different scenarios with a better understanding. The WAcs can be applied on daily basis, and some many situations and they were made, to make sure we have a strong structure towards education and development.

1. When looking at the WACS requirements, I didn’t realize how many there were! I Got a little overwhelmed with how many I had to consider and look into.

2. Child restraint must only be used if the child’s safety or others’ safety is at risk. (110-300-0335)

This one surprised me because normally we are advised to not use any restraint whatsoever.

3. I can see why it is important to stick to the WACs guidelines to ensure the safety of others around us. Not just the kids, but adults too. It will influence my decisions in the future.

I think it’s going going to be very helpful to have such a clear outline.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised by the Chid adult ratio, as well as confused by the types of licenses.

The requirements are extremely specific. Very little is left up to ones own interpretation.

I was surprised at the number of extensions available for certification/recertification/continuing education.

   The WACs will influence my day-to-day practice as they are all required by
   the school I work for. I don’t believe they will change my daily practice
   as I have already been following the school required guidelines.

I discovered that the WACS are very in depth and cover a lot that you might not think they would. Things you don’t even think about, there is a WAC for it. From children, to safety, to environment, to administration, etc. But this allows for us to create the best, safe and healthy environment for the children.

I was surprised that there is a “definition” WAC, <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: var(–bb-body-text-color);”>110-300-0005. I was trying to think of what this could be used for, but I am thinking it is a reference if someone is unfamiliar with a term, like DAP.

WACs influence everyday to help us keep the children safe and healthy. And also to create an environment that is developmentally best for them to learn and grow.

   safety or the safety of others is threatened … This WAC didn’t surprise me just did not know that this was allowed. But I am glad that physically restraining a child is an okay thing to do if the safety of others is at stake and the policy procedures for this are taken.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that there is a WAC by just about anything that you could think of in childcare. There is a lot of requirements to follow.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised by the ratios and how large they are. 1:4, 1:7, 1:10, and 1:15 feels like a lot of students.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? The WACS set a basic standard for safety, cleanliness, and organization of a program to be successful for student development.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I quickly realized just how extremely descriptive and in-depth each of the WACs were, and I appreciated how many examples were provided with each section and description for me to understand.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised by 110-300-0100, which states that one of the general staff qualifications upon application is having a high school diploma or equivalent. I had initially assumed that some sort of college degree would be the minimum requirement.

I can definitely see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. When I see how much hard work and detail was put into ensuring the safety and regulatory practices for children’s well-being in these documents, I realize just how important it is to uphold the WACs in order to maintain a safe environment for the youth.
