While completing the activity, I discovered that the Washington Administrative Code (WACs) for early learning is comprehensive and covers a wide range of regulations to ensure the safety, health, and development of children in care. The WACs address various aspects such as staff qualifications, child-to-staff ratios, health and safety standards, and curriculum requirements.

I was surprised by the level of detail and specificity in some of the WACs, particularly those related to health and safety protocols, such as the requirements for emergency preparedness and response plans, and the stringent guidelines for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.

I can see how the WACs will significantly influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. These regulations provide clear guidelines that help structure daily activities and routines, ensuring that every aspect of care meets high standards. By adhering to the WACs, I can create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. The WACs also serve as a valuable reference to ensure compliance and guide professional practices, contributing to the overall quality and effectiveness of the early learning program.

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? While I was completing the activity I discovered the WACs are very thorough and there is so much stuff that is covered in exactly what to do in certain situations. I now better understand the requirements for being in compliance with licensing.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was a little surprised at the amount of detail in WAC 110-300-0460 Child Records. I knew that records would be kept and accessible to parents of the standard things I would expect but there was a lot of detail in the records that I didn’t know was recorded. Such as needing signed permission for water activities.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I do see how WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children. Since there are so many WACs and situations they cover I can see how even if I’m not referencing the book every day I would still find myself in situations that I know what to do because of WAC guidelines.

Lo que descubri que todos estos WAC son muy importante por que como proveedoras debemos estar muy informadas sobre todas las reglas abusos salud nutricion seguridad registros materiales y todo el personal debemos saber de toda la informacion que tenemos que seguir y aprender para poder tener un hambente seguro y adecuado para los niños.

I pretty much knew what to expect when reading through these WAC’s as I’m a licensed hairstylist by trade and we have to follow WAC’s for that profession as well.

   I discovered the there are many regulations and rules set in place to keep not only the children, but the staff safe. It’s important to make sure they are being followed to the tee to ensure the safest development of the children we care for.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
   WAC 110-300-0486 Expulsion policy was surprising to me. I did not realize that children could be expelled from places like daycares or preschools due to recorded behaviors overtime if the behaviors are repeated.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
   I can absolutely see how these policies set in place will influence my day to day practice caring for children as I did not know some of the things like physical restraint, expulsion, and overnight care were practiced in the childcare systems.

2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised to know how much data needs to be recorded and the number of years everything needs to be kept for. Specifically the information given by WAC 110-300-0465.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes I can see how the WACs will influence day-to-day practices in caring for children. They lay out specific guidelines of requirements that need to be met and how to care for children in different scenarios that arise. WACs play a huge part in knowing what to do in the day-to-day care of children.

1. I found how thorough the guidelines are in running a childcare facility, which is nice to see. When it comes to putting your child in someone else’s hands, that can be a very scary thing. To have all these guidelines implemented would put my mind a bit more at ease as a parent.

2. While I am not completely surprised, I found the restraint parts interesting. I come from a background of working with adults and teenagers and we are also taught certain restraints for escalated behavior, so information on that for children as feels like a given but I never considered what it would look like to properly do so in the times it is necessary.

3. Yes, they are great standards to uphold in working with children and give a good baseline of everything.
