MemberNovember 30, 2024 at 5:36 pm1. The activity simplified the codes
2. I wasn’t surprised by the codes, a little confused because of the repetition in some codes
3. These codes influence my practice sometimes in a negative way, because there are some barriers for creativity when having to follow these codes.

3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children, as it will promote my understanding of caring and advocating for children, and the regulatory code of WACs and DCYF.

MemberDecember 1, 2024 at 9:53 pmI found that each section has a more detailed explanation and that is important because we can understand better.
I think there is no particular one that surprised me, I expected everything and each detailed WAC solved my doubts.
Yes, because it helps a lot to know how to act in a certain situation because when we read it we can understand better and know what to do in the situation.

MemberDecember 2, 2024 at 12:47 am- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? At first I had a hard time figuring out where to find each section to do the activity sheet. Using the official Washington State legislature website helped a bunch. I did not know how in depth each section would be and it was very informative. Which I appreciate since I am not from Washington, it’s a great resource to go back to.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was not surprised by anything in particular but I really appreciated learning more about all the trainings that are needed for example “Abuse Head Trauma, Children experiencing homelessness, and Safe sleep. “
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I think learning more about WACs will really help with day to day in the classroom. It’s so important as educators to keep learning and to stay on top of what’s needed to have a safe and supported classroom.

1. One thing I discovered was how detailed each WAC truly was, each one was drawn out well with direct requirements that I might not have known were in fact requirements. for example, the specificness of having “waterproof” materials for nap time makes complete sense but I wouldn’t have thought that would be specifically in the WACs.
2.The only one that surprised me was the one regarding nap time. I didn’t know that a nap is required based on how long a child is in childcare, I originally thought that to be a looser rule, more like aa unsaid rule.
3. I absolutely can see how the WAC’s will influence my day-to-day practice in childcare, so many if the WACs are directly focusing on activities and responsibilities that can be easily overlooked on a daily basis. I personally have these duties each day and it’s good to know exactly what needs it be done daily.

MemberDecember 3, 2024 at 6:15 pmI learned that there are a lot of requirements that go into running a childcare facility. There are a ton of rules and regulations to follow.
I felt as though most things were gentle reminders to the things we need to be providing for the children in our care.
I think they have helped influence me to appreciate that I do have a job parents/guardians are trusting me to take care of their children and be able to prepare them for a future that they can look forward to.

MemberDecember 11, 2024 at 11:23 pm- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I learned a lot while completing the activity because this is the first I have ever been introduced to them. I learned a lot about the guidelines and expectations
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I can’t say I was really surprised by any of the WACs
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes it will be very helpful to me because it made me aware of a lot of things that I might not have known before and it will serve as my guideline on how to operate as I work in child care.

1. I learned that there are a multitude of different WAC requirements that I never would’ve thought of on my own. Some of the requirements even seem so specific, I can’t imagine that they would be directly applied to me.
2. I was surprised by the sheer amount of paperwork that needs to be filed when an incident happens, and the headache of a process it must be.
3. I think reading about these WACs have made me more aware of exactly where the professional boundary lies when it comes to children and us workers.
-
- What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I got a better understanding of classroom expecations and rules, I only saw small, simplified reminders around the classroom I work in.
- Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was surprised by how in-depth the WACs went when describing each section.
- Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? Yes, I can see so many that will be, and have been, influencing my day-to-day practice. I now see more of why I was trained to do things a certain way.

MemberDecember 12, 2024 at 10:43 pmWhat did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity?
I discovered that some of the WACs were pretty straightforward and common sense, whilst others were very detailed, specific, and quite frankly things I wouldn’t have even thought of.
Were you surprised by any of the WACs?
I was surprised by WAC 110-300-0460 which states that Each child’s enrollment record must include the following: A parent or guardian approved plan for use of physical restraint and documentation of parental or guardian notification.
Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not?
I can absolutely see how these could affect my day-to-day practice in caring for children. Before every move I make, I must examine if this will fit the guidelines as I myself wouldn’t want to jeopardize my job or the childcare center’s integrity either.
