Wac is incredibly thorough and makes it inexcusable to be negligent or “I didn’t know”. It also protects us as childcare workers and provides the public every opportunity to be not just a valuable teacher but also leader.

I already knew my way around the WAC so there wasn’t anything too shocking. I remember reading them for the first time though and it was shocking to me that they hand one regarding physical restraint. I can now clearly see how many WAC codes will impact my teaching on the daily

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that the WACs are extremely thorough, and there is not much room for error (rightly so).
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I was not surprised by any of the WACs except WAC 110-300-0460, as I assumed children’s medical information would be protected by HIPPA, however I understand that it would be of utmost importance for all childcare professionals to have access to that information in case of an emergency.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? WACs are standards for childcare professionals so yes, I understand that they can and should influence my day-to-day practices. These rules and regulations were made for a reason, and it is the duty of myself and other childcare professionals to uphold them.

1. I learned that the WACs are vital to following procedure when it comes to childcare, and cover a wide array of topics, from disaster preparedness to rules surrounding electronics.

2. I was surprised to learn that there were specific laws pertaining to maintaining gardens in childcare spaces – testing for contaminants, restrictions on what to plant, etc.

3. As the official legal guidelines for childcare in Washington, I expect the WACs to come into play almost nonstop; after all, we’ll be working with kids the whole time, so we’ll be using the same rules.

1. What I discovered from the WAC is there is a lot of great information and answers when in doubt or unsure how to proceed when a problem or question arises while working at a center.

2. I wasn’t surprised by the WAC rules more so how in detail the regulations are in, very little room for confusion or misunderstanding, but still straight to the point.

3. I can definitely see how the WACs will influence my day to day practices, I think being more knowledgeable and sure of how things need/should to be done will make me feel more secure and confident and reflect in my overall work with children, colleagues, and families.

While completing this activity I learned about the different postings I will need in my daycare and the documentation I will need to have on each child.

Nothing “surprised” me but just reminded me of things I need to complete.

Absolutely. Making sure I have the correct documentation and timelines will keep me on a schedule and track throughout the year.

Most of the WACs are either common sense (to me) or very logical when considering the responsibility of the profession.No surprises, everything is very easily applicable.

1. I found that the learning centers are in charge of preparedness materials for children that go to the school!

3. WACs will be used everyday because they are good reminders and base points for teachers to use.

3. yes I can see how the WAC influences your day-to-day life while working at the center. it tells you about everything you need to do and lookout for even if not all of it is important to your day-to-day a lot of it is.

1. I learned that in order to comply with Washington state requirements, there are a lot of rules that must be followed.It’s always beneficial to learn new things that you didn’t anticipate.
2. One of the WACs that surprised me was WAC 110-300-0340 Expulsion. WAC 110-300-0340 Expulsion states “(1) To promote consistent care and maximize opportunities for child development and learning, an early learning provider must develop and follow expulsion policies and practices pursuant to WAC 110-300-0486.” Although I wasn’t necessarily surprised by this, it was interesting to read why a child can and may get expelled and the steps that must be taken during the expulsion process.
3. I can definitely see how the WACs will affect the way I care for kids on a daily basis. I make this statement because adhering to the WACs requires that several policies and procedures be followed.

Each employee and volunteer in a child care programme has a responsibility to complete a number of forms for complying with specific licencing rules and policies in order to maintain their employment with the programme. This responsibility includes knowing the WACs.
