Screen time is not a necessary tool to utilize within a child care facility. There are systems and processes in place to allow to breaks for staff and schedules to maintain for the students including crafts, meals, outdoor time, ect that should be used first. Screentime is something that can be saved for parents/caregivers in an in home setting.

Using the screen as tools to play music is okay, but the child should not be able to see the screen. Make sure entertainment is coming from toys and interactions instead of a screen.
-
According to studies, it has been shown that during the first two years of life, children should not be subjected to any type of screen exposure; after that age, limited use could be considered for educational purposes.

MemberDecember 18, 2023 at 9:43 amI agree that screen time should either be kept to a minimum or not be given at all to young children and instead focus should be on helping them interact with the real world and people around them. Senses besides just sight and sound should be engaged.

I think screen time for children older than 2 is fine as long as it is educational and is monitored by the teachers. I think between 30 minutes to an hour is an appropriate amount of screen time.

What are your thoughts on screen time for children in childcare?
I think that the children should enjoy the environment. They could discover what to see, touch, smell, and listen. We. like educators should have limited screen time because it is important for real-world exploration with the children. Create activities in Circle time not too much technology. It is essential social interact with the educators face-to-face. The environment contributes to the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development of children.

I believe that screentime should be no longer than 20 minutes, if any, especially in a childcare setting where we want their children to be actively learning and participating. The research has shown that excessive screentime is harmful to their development, and is not necessary. They could have just as much fun, if not more from interacting with peers and faculty.

MemberDecember 30, 2023 at 1:35 amMy thoughts on screen time for children do align with the reading, I think that children under 2 should not have screen time since it is the important time when children are learning how to speak and learning motor skills such as walking and pointing when seeing something they have interest in. And for older than two no longer than an hour of screen time because again of how much impact it can have on their developing brains.

By short I mean about 10 minutes. Children often get screen time at home, so being in a learning setting they can learn to use other ways to learn. Unfortunately, in our modern world we need both tech and hands on, and as children get older they learn to use screen time productively. It does need to be supervised and limited by adults.

MemberDecember 30, 2023 at 7:15 pmIn my opinion, young children should expose to the outside world more. I do not see the benefits of watching tv and how it can apply to our life-long skills such as problem solving, sensory, etc. If there was ever a time for my child to watch tv, there shouldn’t be more than an hour per day. I will also filter what they watch.
