MemberApril 14, 2023 at 2:41 amMy opinion on the matter of screen time is…. confused!! Screen time only when you need to calm the class down, but only for a short period of time, like maybe about 10 min before lunch time (if out door activities aren’t available) I do feel that music is good to have through out the day!!!

MemberApril 14, 2023 at 10:31 pmI think that because the children we care for live in an era of technological advancements, I think that screentime should be allowed. However, the screentime should be very limited and it should be educational.

MemberApril 15, 2023 at 6:38 amI think children spend no more than an hour watching the screen every day. Screen can provide educational and entertainment value, but too much screen time will have a negative impact on children’s health and attention duration. I think we should give priority to some games, social interaction and other activities suitable for development, rather than screen time.
-
As mentioned in the class, I think screentime should be reserved for at home. When in childcare or preschool, children are surrounded by peers and teachers in which they can learn and develop with support. Additionally, learning is more meaningful when students are actively engaged in their learning and interactions, which is not supported by screentime. Thus, I like to minimize screentime as much as possible in childcare settings.

I don’t think some screen time is bad, maybe 30 minutes of it would be okay; as long as their learning something beneficial from it. If its not beneficial in some sort of way I don’t think its needed in the learning center, as screens can be captivating in young children, limiting their interactions with other children around them.
-
I can go both ways for screen time at childcare centers but at the childcare center that I currently work at screentime is only used for the children ages 3 and up and its less than 15 minutes and it is beneficial to what the children are learning at that exact moment. The childrenn 2 and younger experience only hands on learning and it is beneficial to them as well.

MemberApril 26, 2023 at 10:18 pmMy thoughts on screen time for younger kids is for them not to have any. I think it’s best if they play outside, listen to music to let out their energy. Other activities can be playing with blocks, dolls, puzzles and read books. This will help them with their social and emotional skills.
-
Childcare providers can offer a range of developmentally appropriate activities such as outdoor play, art projects, and interactive games that promote physical activity and social interaction. Additionally, caregivers can use screen time as a tool to support learning by providing educational content, engaging children in interactive activities, and limiting passive consumption of media.
-
In my opinion, I think that screentime shouldnt be allowed in early learning due to the amount recieved at home nowadays its almost like school is getting them away from it just for a litte while.
-
It is best not to have screen time at least until preschool. The screen time doesn’t create strong relationships or bonding. They need to explore the nature and have fun learning in the classrom with their peers.

MemberMay 1, 2023 at 10:45 pmI recently took a psychology class and watched a video regarding the effects of screen time for young children such as higher risks of ADHD and others. It was truly shocking. They claimed that you could reverse some of the effects by removing it and having play time or reading. But it is best to just avoid it. The stimulation on the brain trying to keep up with the constant movements, color changes, flickering lights is just too much for a developing brain. I am guilty of allowing my own child to watch too much TV, yes. Things have changed since watching that video though.

Excessive screen time has been linked to various negative outcome like sleep disturbances and behavioral issues. We should limit the amount of screen time children have and offer alternative activities that promote socialization, and development. We should also work with parents to establish consistent guidelines for screen time at home and in childcare to ensure that children’s overall screen time is appropriate for their age and development.
