If i am giving a tour, parents would notice the safety door’s code enter, the secure gates to reach the play grown area, and the safe fence that surround the whole school, the first aid kits that are not reachable for children, fire extinguishers, the safe area for washing hands and small toilets for children feel more comfortable, the safe and eye level areas with material that they can explore without danger.

Parents typically tend to have questions about illnesses, probably cause of covid, so I tend to answer a lot about our process with cleaning. And very much emphasizing how we make sure we are watching the kids, like classroom management. If something happens the talking about the steps that we have, such as first aid.

Welcoming them into my location I would highlight the gated perimeter as well as the pass coded entry way. Then introduce them to my office staff that they will have to walk past to reach the classrooms. Then the CSR record that is how we maintain records of who is in attendance.

I would give them a warm and sincere welcome to school and introduce myself. I would give them a tour both inside and outside while sharing the fun and exciting things their child will get to experience and highlight how we will meet the child where they are in their developmental journey. I would review our safety and emergency procedures in place, and where and how first aid supplies are stored and accessed. Point out how our learning environment is set up in a safe and developmentally appropriate way, as we all explain our health and illness policy for children or staff. How our program and environment differ from others, what we offer and why, and how we will help foster a supportive space for their child.

During a tour of a childcare program, some safety procedures that could be highlighted to prospective parents include:

    1. Secure Entry and Exit: Highlight security measures in place to ensure that only authorized individuals can enter and exit the facility.

    2. Supervision: Emphasize the staff-to-child ratio and the vigilance with which children are supervised throughout various activities.

    3. Emergency Preparedness: Discuss emergency procedures, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and how the program ensures the safety of the children in case of emergencies.

    4. Health and Hygiene: Explain the program’s practices for maintaining cleanliness, promoting good hygiene, and preventing the spread of illness.

    5. Safety Equipment: Show the presence of safety equipment such as first aid kits, childproofing measures, and any other safety features in the facility.

    6. Background Checks: Inform the prospective parent about the background checks and training undergone by staff members to ensure the safety of the children.

By highlighting these safety procedures, the childcare program can demonstrate its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the children in its care.

If I were providing a prospective parent a tour, I would highlight how we respond to emergencies, how we keep children with allergies safe, and our procedures to keep our center clean and what precautions we have in place for infection control.

I would give them an open house-style welcome and introduction as well as show them around the classroom as well and go over any safety procedures that are in place for each area of play and have open availability for questions and concerns and ensure that they understand their children are in the best care with all the precautions being met.
