Promoting acceptance of diversity
an early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. diverse learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families, and staff. a provider must use equipment and materials that include, but are not limited to: (a) diverse dolls, books, pictures, games, or materials that do not reinforce stereotypes; (b) diverse music from many cultures in children’s primary languages; and (c) a balance of different ethnic and cultural groups, ages, abilities, family styles, and genders. (2) an early learning provider must intervene appropriately to stop biased behavior displayed by children or adults including, but not limited to: (a) redirecting an inappropriate conversation or behavior; (b) being aware of situations that may involve bias and responding appropriately; and (c) refusing to ignore bias.

- What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? Staff from a program needs to include practices in the classroom related to their culture. Doing so will demonstrate how the children are represented. This will help build connections and bonds with other children who may have different or similar aspects of their culture.

2. Messages the WAC talks about regarding diversity and collaboration is that creating a welcoming and culturally inclusive environment will show that they are appreciated and welcomed and able to be comfortable.

2. I think the big take away was that communicating with the family and being involved in the children’s development is important while also being inclusive of everybody’s culture with a variety of materials.

WAC convey communicating with the families about how to best take care of their child (developmental goals, behaviors, health, cultural, social, etc) and use that information and utilize it when caring for their child. Parents have choices that professionals support in their classroom, having a more diverse an inclusive environment is highly beneficial for the children.

WAC 110-300-0160 in WAC says that early childcare providers must provide learning opportunities that are culturally/ racially diverse in their curriculums, activities, and materials. Some of these may include incorporating different cultures in your curriculum.

I would also include other language rhymes/ songs during the circle time like Good morning song, Friends songs. would welcome the child to introduce about their family and culture by speech or art or Me book kind of things. I would also include other language such as songs during the circle time.
I also think that we need to learn other language, at lease we should know how to say Hello, how a you, are you hungry, going to bath room, basic words.
