MemberSeptember 4, 2023 at 9:52 amIf I suspect a child may be neglected or abused, I would talk to the child first, just to understand how the child is feeling or responding in general and I would discuss with my lead teacher and director as I have just started my career as a care giver. Before I make my decision of contacting the CPS, I want to be sure about my observations and suspicion. But, I would definitely discuss my concerns with all the authorities involved in the academy except for the child’s parents keeping the child safety as the best interest.

MemberSeptember 6, 2023 at 11:36 pmChild First Always is a principle that honors and protects all children. This includes keeping them away from harm in all scenarios and is part of the ethical responsibility of the Lead. <font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”>However, it is also the responsibility of the Lead to not make and present assumptions that are going to be critically damaging to the individual. Studying and commitment to anti bias and antiracist principles is the most just-driven approach to ensure providers are </font>knowledgeable<font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”> with complete information. As care providers we are also mandated </font>reports<font color=”rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)” face=”inherit”> so I would make a report after studying and having enough “evidence”. </font>

MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 2:59 amI would watch and observe the child daily. I would also see how they react when they are dropped or picked up from the family memeber. I have to make sure this is a real concern and know to take this seriously. If it is something that needs to address I would have to talk to the other teacher’s in the classroom and see if they have noticed anything changes in the child that is a red flag. I would also have to bring to the attention to my diectors in my program. So this could be handle the correct way.

MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 5:26 pmI would first make sure that I’m not jumping to fast to a conclusion. I would do some investigating even having conversations with the families to make sure that I’m not misinterpreting something. If after that I still feel there is a serious risk to the child I would report it to CPS. In the case of potential immediate risk I would just go straight to cps.

MemberSeptember 13, 2023 at 8:33 pmI would first begin by reporting it to a supervisor and then follow the steps they recommend. I think involving another adult is good but calling CPS can be very emotionally taxing and it is helpful to have a trusted superior be there to help you through it.

Knowing when to report a case of abuse or neglect is a crucial responsibility as a child care provider. I understand that not all forms of abuse involve physical harm, and recognizing signs of emotional, sexual, or physical neglect is essential. If I even suspect that a child may be a victim, I’m committed to contacting CPS promptly. It’s vital not to attempt to manage the situation or interview the child myself, as CPS is responsible for investigating and ensuring the child’s safety. While I understand the importance of confidentiality, I will always prioritize the child’s well-being and follow the mandated reporting procedures outlined in my parent handbook and health policies, without necessarily informing parents in most circumstances. This commitment to reporting and child protection is a fundamental aspect of my role as a child care provider.

MemberSeptember 22, 2023 at 11:11 pmIf I suspect a child is abused or neglected I would first check with my superior about the correct steps to take in case there are specific actions that I must also do. Next, I would immediately contact CPS and make a report. I wouldn’t inform the parents. If I will think that the child is in immediate danger, I would immediately contact the local law enforcement after contacting CPS.
