MemberJune 8, 2023 at 7:47 pmI would make sure to communicate with the child one on one, ask about whatever triggered my concern without prying for details. Once I have communicated my concern to the child, I would make sure to help them feel supported. I would go to my lead teacher and discuss what I had witnessed and lightly spoke about with the child. I would then report the situation to ENDHARM, CPS. I take the role of mandated reporter very seriously.

MemberJune 18, 2023 at 1:37 amIf I suspected child abuse or neglect I would immediately go to my supervisor. I would discuss what I have seen and my concerns and ask him what I should do. If I would need to make a call to CPS I know he would be willing to help me take those steps and guide me through it.

I would bring it up to my lead teacher to see if it is a viable concern because she has been in the classroom for over 20 years. We would then see if we should escalate it to administration, who would then help us contact CPS. Since I work in a toddler class, I’m not sure if directly asking the child will get us any information.I would bring it up to my lead teacher to see if it is a viable concern because she has been in the classroom for over 20 years. If I suspected child abuse or neglect, I would go to my supervisor and explain my reasons behind my suspicions and tell them that we should go through the process of reporting the suspected child abuse. I also would like to the child just to ask how have they been and make sure they are not in any immediate danger.

MemberJune 22, 2023 at 3:18 pmI think the most important thing is to document whatever you suspect, keep your supervisor in the loop, and report it as soon as possible.

MemberJune 23, 2023 at 7:54 amIf I suspected child abuse or neglect, my immediate course of action would be to follow the necessary steps to report the situation. I would contact Child Protective Services (CPS) or the appropriate authority in my jurisdiction to share my concerns and provide them with the information I have. I would not hesitate to report any suspicions, even if I am unsure or if the incidents appear accidental.
It is crucial for me to remember that I should not attempt to interview the child or handle the situation on my own. Instead, I would leave the interviewing and investigating to the trained professionals at CPS who have the expertise to handle such cases appropriately.
Confidentiality is of utmost importance, so I would refrain from informing parents that I am making a CPS report. I would also ensure that my parent handbook or posted health policies clearly state my role as a mandated reporter and my commitment to reporting any suspicion of child abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
In any case, my primary concern would be the well-being and safety of the child. By promptly reporting my suspicions and cooperating with CPS, I would be taking the necessary steps to protect and support the child who may be in a vulnerable situation.

MemberJune 26, 2023 at 11:22 pmI am required by law to report child abuse. The first step after suspecting child abuse would be to observe and collect evidence, then I can report and proceed legally.

If I see anything that seems to point towards child neglect or abuse I will notify the lead first to see if the lead teacher has been also seeing the same issues. Then, if this is confirmed I’ll go talk to the site director to see what the policy is before going straight to CPS. Mainly because I don’t want to jump the guns and damage the relationship between the child and the parent, and the parent and the childcare center.

MemberJune 29, 2023 at 3:42 pmIf I thought a child was being abused, I probably would talk with my co-teacher to help confirm my observations, document everything, report to the director, and call CPS. The child is first, and we need to make sure they are safe.
