What would you do if you suspected child abuse or neglect?

If I suspected any type of abuse I would first observe and check the child, ask the child (if they are able to) what happened, if child seems scared or cannot recount, or even if they can but it just does not make sense, I would then approach the lead and director to verify and/or guide me to the next steps. Contact CPS if needed, or local authorities if it is more urgent/immediate.

I would look through my observations and have my documentation prepared before contacting end harm number.

By informing the school structure, relevant parties and CPS, my due diligence as a mandated reporter is technically done. Even so, it’s worthwhile to keep tabs on the kid to make sure they get out of the situation unharmed.

I would report what I suspect to a higher up at the childcare center to see if they agree with me on what I’m suspecting. If they are I would report it.

I would speak with my supervisor immediately about my concerns and call CPS.

Call CPS and report the incident. Keep record and let admin know.

i would probably consult with my director or a coworker about what steps should be taken, whether just a cps call is adequate or theres need for a police report to be made as well.

I would talk to people who also work with the child to see if they have also noticed the same things, and then make a report to CPS.

the safety of the students I teach will always be my main priority. But since every child comes from such different backgrounds, it is really hard to decipher between abuse and normalcy from diverse families. If ever suspected of child abuse or neglect, talking to someone I trust that also works within the same setting as me would be my first thing to do. then make a call on whether or not a report is necessary.

If I suspected abuse or neglect I would bring it up with my supervisor and get their support while calling CPS.
