    I agree children often enjoy being apart of the schedule making or doing “helper” duties. It can be simple to present things in a fun way that makes children want to engage and interact.

    I think it is important to have a welcoming, nurturing environment that allows independence. Books, toys or activities being set out in station-like areas for children to show what their preference or interests may be. This environment will also allow early learning providers to follow children’s cues and better suit their individual needs.

  • I think it situations like this, it is best to be open and honest while also being prepared to listen and understand questions or concerns. Plan out your discussion points and bring documentation regarding development if permitted. Discuss milestones and successes with parent as well to let them know things their child is succeeding with. Be respectful and supportive, provide resources

  • Observing and documenting a child’s development can allow early learning providers to better assist each child while being sure to provide all resources possible to that child. As we all know, children have different needs, wants and learning styles. Some children need more tools or assistance and some just want to be presented the activity in a different way. Documenting development also helps early learning providers to communicate needs, successes and milestones with families.

    Although helpful at times, I feel screen time is harmful to a young child’s development. I feel young developing children rely heavily on peer interaction and communicating cues to loved ones or care givers. I do not see how screen time stimulates a child’s mental, emotional, physical or social needs.

    I think it is helpful to follow a child’s cues. If you seem them showing interest in one specific thing, build on that. Focus on that one thing and the ways you can incorporate that into your classroom and document the child’s preferences or favorites.

    WAC 110-300-0160 discusses promoting acceptance of diversity. I agree it is important to celebrate every child and their unique differences while showing them the importance of inclusivity and acceptance. I find strength in my resources and see myself searching for books, songs, snacks, etc. that would help celebrate a child’s unique difference with them while making sure they feel supported.

  • I learned many new things during the WAC activity and definitely see how they will impact my daily care for children and find comfort in the resource. I think overall, there was a bit more to them than I initially realized, but I can’t say that is surprising when you are shaping little minds!
