I would welcome the parents to the classroom and show them around all the different centers first. Then I would tell them our thorough cleaning and sanitizing policy. I would highlight the measures we go to ensure allergy safety, and how to respond incase of an emergency.

My biggest worry is the uncontrollables like the people around you.

A good way to approach a parent about the developmental screening of their child is to have good documentation of your observations. You should prepare yourself for this conversation and have places for referral for their child.

Observing and documenting a child’s development can help early learning providers because it gives them a sense of what they should be doing to support the child’s needs. Children grow and develop at different rates, so there needs to be different approaches to working with each child. It is helpful to have the observations and documentation to accomplish this.

The WACs were easy to understand and follow which made it a clearer learning experience for me. It surprised me how in depth the WACs were. It makes sense though, since it leaves no room for question when coming across any situation. The WACs make me more aware of what I need to be paying attention to as an early learning professional which definitely influences my day-to-day practice in caring for children.
