Observing and documenting a child’s development helps early learning providers by giving them insight into their abilities and whether each given skill is proficient, advanced, or in need of extra support, and how support and guidance can be tailored to tap into the child’s interests and existing abilities.

Screen time for young children can be counterproductive, even if the screen content is meant to be educational. This is because passive interaction in place of hands-on interaction deprives them of social development, including exchanging and processing ideas with peers and thinking rationally about the world around them.

Early learning providers can facilitate interactions of back and forth communication in their classroom, granting each child enough time to deliver each response. Offering regular encouragement and flexibility of play, while providing enough time for children to develop and implement ideas, fosters independent young minds.
