In doing so, this can be a fun and fulfilling way for children to be engaged in their activities.

Making sure the children have a variety of activities they can do while also maintaining a time for snack, lunch, naptime, and/or outdoor play. Making sure they are having fun or enjoying what has been planned for the day and even while learning something new it can help them develop more skills.

Also having a list of referrals with you before meeting with the parent can/will help with approaching them, making sure they get all the support they can, and helping them to understand what needs to be done for their child is crucial as well.

I believe that screen time should not be used for children in childcare unless it is a 3-5 dance video or something similar.

It is understandable if the parent was running late due to traffic or an unexpected event but if this were to happen again and for the 4th time, matters would need to be discussed as soon as they can be, in order to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen in the future.

- What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration?
– WAC 110-300-0160 addresses diversity and promoting acceptance of it in schools. WAC 110-300-0085 addresses collaboration with families and states that early learning providers must communicate with families on goals for the child(ren), gather information regarding their behavioral, health, social, developmental, and cultural needs, and seek support from families and staff to determine a game plan on how the program can add each and every child’s needs.
– The big message is that diversity and collaboration are both very important whether they be in an early learning childcare center or in a high school. With both, we can find balance and work towards a brighter future in order for everyone: children, their families, and childcare providers to work and learn in a safe and happy environment.

1. I discovered that there was much more to WACs then I had initially thought. It was quite interesting to learn about waivers and variances as well. The description of both topics was very thorough and there is so much more that goes into them. Like for example, the qualifications needed, licensing history, complain history, and any other information related in order to be approved for a waiver. Or it can be disapproved based on that same information as well.

2. Yes, I was surprised due to how many WACs there were.
3. Yes, I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice in caring for children because of all the information and how helpful it will be if I am ever in a pickle about what to do in a serious situation.

I agree with what you said about making them feel secure and in control. It is very important for a child to know that they matter, never feel left out or having to feel that way, and that they feel comfortable the whole time.
-
I also agree with your statement about a child being in a safe and comfortable environment. I also want to add that being in a welcoming, clean, and where everyone is kind and helpful type of environment is important for a child too.
