As an early childhood provider when I start feeling compassion fatigue I pay attention to how I’m feeling physically and emotionally making sure I take short breaks when needed and am actively listening to my body.

My advice would be to prioritize open communication and mutual respect as this creates a trusting environment for both parties in relationships.

As the parent of a young child I would want to make sure my child’s provider was providing a safe and secure environment, tending to a nurturing and caring attitude with my child and other students, and most importantly keeping open and consistent communication regarding my child’s development and well-being in the classroom.

You can incorporate strategies such as: collaborative learning, student-centered choices, storytelling, incorporating the differences and different learning styles among the children etc.

You should focus on blocks of time rather than pinpoints making sure there is flexibility throughout your schedule for plenty of opportunity in case a mistake was made or tantrums occur. Keep routines simple and make sure you explain to the child(s) the importance of the routine breaking it down into simpler form for them.
