There are many things you can try. I like helping children find names for their emotions. Another thing I’ve seen work is practicing how to deep breath. maybe offer an area the child can go. Make this a discussion and allow the child to help design their own plan.

When I feel compassion fatigue I try to be open and honest with those around me about it. I see what stresses I’m experience and if some of them I can ask others to help with. I will also spend my free time relaxing and focusing on myself more during these times because I know a part of this is not taking care of myself.

I’ve found taking a step back when you can and focus on breathing and your body. Regrounding is really helpful for me. If I can’t step away then putting on some fun music or doing something to change the dynamic of the situation helps to get me out of that stressed response.

I would point out fire safety as we walk and bring attention to signs on the walls about emergency protocols and cleanliness. I would talk about class size and ask what emergency protocols they may want to know more about.

I would first talk to the child and make sure they know they are not in trouble. I would then talk to my supervisor before finally calling the necessary law enforcement deemed needed.

My biggest worry has to do with the unknown. If one of my children has a serious allergy or if someone breaks a bone in my class and how I will respond and be able to properly respond.

if I were a parent the three things that I would hope from my provider is to accommodate to my child, show they care, and make sure they are safe. I would worry about my child’s safety, are they making friends, is this the right place for my child.

To help engage children in meaningful learning you must ask then questions and let them come up with the answers. Help them learn to problem solve instead of just giving them information. Having group discussions at circle time and asking children open ended (not yes/no) questions while they play also helps.

To build a balanced schedule you should make sure in include alternating hands on/louder activities with quieter ones. Make sure to appropriately space out meal times and leave time for rest depending on ages. Outside time is also important.

I think having it well organized with plenty of options for the children is very important. Having designated centers where children can have an idea of what they might want to do but options so they can imagine and be creative.

It is important to regularly monitor and document children’s development. Each child in a classroom will be different. I didn’t realize just ho big the range is, but it makes a lot of sense to me. We all learn at our own pace and as a teacher it is important to insure each child’s learning and developmental needs are met at school.

I believe that screen time should be minimal. There are better, more hands on ways to teach children than through a video.

I think one of the best ways to create a serve and return environment is to get down on the kids level and really listen to the kids. Model what it looks like for them.

I would ask the parent why they have been late so much recently and try and be understanding. I would also make sure they understand that they agreed to the pickup time and how this effect the child and staff.

WAC addresses diversity and collaboration with families through WAC-110-300-0030 “Nondiscrimination” where it is stated that programs cannot discriminate based on race, class, age, disability, and many other factors. WAC wants to show that diversity and collaboration are extremely important for children to see and experience early on.

If I had a newly immigrated child in my class, I would want to start open conversation with the family however I can. I would figure out what languages are spoken, holidays celebrated, and anything I can about where they come from and what values the family has.
