If suspected child abuse I would immediately gather all of the important information a CPS intake person would need – full name, DOB, family information, and my observations the indicate abuse/neglect. I would bring this to my supervisor for support and we would make the report.

What are some good ways to approach a parent about developmental screening of their child?Prepare before you have the conversation – have documents ready to share with the family, know it might be an emotional conversation for the families, have strategies or ideas to help/support child and family. Approach with empathy and kindness and non judgmentally.

It is also important to Highlight the child’s strength and relay the areas the child excels in.

How does observing and documenting a child’s development help early learning providers?observing and documenting a child’s development helps to document a child’s progress to see where they are at so you are able to scaffold teaching to be developmentally appropriate to a specific child. It also allows you to take that information to document if they are meeting developmentally appropriate benchmarks and if not you are able to take the documentation of the child’s development and us strategies that target areas they may need additional support in.

I would schedule time to have a sit down. I would first invite her to share what barriers are there that are causing her to be late and if possible come up with a goal together so that she is abled to work on arriving on time. If there are things that she cannot move that is causing her to be late consistently I would invite her to look at alternative care that might work best for her/her schedule. If the conversation is going well I think it would also be important to highline the importance of routines and consistency for young children as sometimes parents are unaware of the developmental impacts.

What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration? All people should feel welcome in a childcare center through classroom materials, interactions with the staff.

What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that the WACs are very complex and thorough to be able to clearly any questions or eliminate room for error. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? I wasn’t surprised by any of the WACs in specific but I was surprised by the fact that there are so many and they go into depth about topics that I would have never thought. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? The WACs outline the basic policies and procedures that are required in Child Care centers which affects the way that we are working in the class and the things we have in place in the center.
