Asking open-ended questions for kids to think about.

Have your daily schedule printed or available for everyone to ensure all staff and children are on the same page.

Consistency in every day expectations of where things will be done, and where to find things.

Have prepared documentation available to refer to. Provide confidential information in a private space to ensure no one is overhearing the discussion. Have talking points or a script to ensure all information is provided, along with next step resources for the parents.

Observing and documenting means you can track progress, and ensure that they are getting the right curriculum for where they are at.

I think screentime in childcare for young members is unnecessary, and shouldn’t be within the space.

Start with questions – noticing of a trend, and wondering what is causing the lateness? Then reinforce the closing time, and what might be additional consequences per the handbook in a calm manner.

I have discovered that the WAC is very specific to the expectations that it sets forth for Early Childhood Education. It feels like a clear cut space to go find answers for most questions that may come up during tenure. Understanding the roles and the rules going in, makes for a smoother day-to-day run of the space.
