One of the best ways to help children recognize their emotions and control their responses is to listen to what they are saying and look at their body language, then describe their body language to them and ask them if they are feeling whatever emotion they are showing

When I start to feel compassion fatigue I book a day off or a weekend trip just so I can have a break from reality and give myself time to regulate myself so that I can be my nest self at work. sometimes I book an appointment for my therapist or talk to a trusted friend or my partner.

responsive exchanges would be to have serve and return interactions with your children, make sure to always listen, be a model for compassion and kindness and make sure your children alway feel comfortable and are well taken care of ( If they need sleep, food, or quiet time let them)

A good work/life balance is necessary, having boundaries is essential, I usually share fun anecdotes about my day or describe why it was a hard day with my partner then I go about my life and do some self-care. I think not bringing work into life and life into work is super helpful

my advice for childcare providers to help build positive relationships is to listen to the children in your care, create the serve and return dynamics and try your best to not interrupt or disrupt the children when they are talking

  • I think its good to have reminders of guidance policies is always a good idea, I think that it is a reminder for teachers and caregivers of how they should behave and to show parents of the policies that are in place

Give children the opportunity to be physically active enough such as give appropriate outside time and be active with them, encourage activity (don’t just let them sit down on the bench unless they are tired from playing) and if they do not have outside time because of weather make sure they do an interactive or yoga video made for children so they are still getting that physical activity in.

You can make healthy habits fun by being excited about it yourself, congratulating kids on doing it for themselves and making them prideful in their accomplishment of the habit, if that doesn’t work you can make it a game with some sort of reward system.

The safety procedures I would highlight is any cabinet that should not be accessed by the children having a lock or childproof mechanism on it, child friendly furniture, any outlets being covered, open spaces and unblocked pathways to help eliminate falls or accidents.

If I suspected a child in my care was a victim of abuse I would report it to CPS as I am a mandated reporter, I would of course not make assumptions based on prejudices or anything like that only based on the Childs behavior or any warning signs of abuse.

My biggest worry about keeping the children in my care safe is anything out of my control such as school shooting or anything of that nature or being distracted by other children and a child accidentally seriously harms themself.

My advice for creating and maintaining positive relationship with parents is to always create a welcoming and open environment so that if you do have to have a hard conversation that environment is already established, be clear and concise about the problem, listen to them and being open-minded and empathetic

The 3 most important things I would want from my child’s provider were to protect and treat my child like they would their own, treat my child with love and compassion, and be a good role model for them to learn from. The 3 things I would. fear are any abuse or neglect happening, my child learning bad behaviors from children or providers, or my child not having fun and having trouble making friends.

  • creative ways to get children engaged in active meaningful language is curate it to a Childs special interest or ask questions that get them thinking and they can attach it to something that is meaningful to them such as when teaching phonics “D can stand for a lot of words such as dinosaur, dog, dragon, what else starts with D” and hopefully they raise their hand and can come up with some words, just try to make it something your children can identify with.
