  • For a 2-month-old infant it is important to use a crib with a firm mattress that is snugly, with no gaps between the mattress and the edge of the crib.

Currently my biggest worry about keeping children safe and healthy is that something out of my control will happen, or that I will make a decision that leads to an unsafe situation.I am most interested in learning how to make quick decisions that lead to the most safe outcome for all children.

To create and maintain a good partnership between caregivers and child care providers it is important to build trusting relationships built off of clear continuous communication.

If I were the parent of a young child, three things I would want for my child’s provider are that they would communicate with me often transparently and clearly. I would want them to treat my child with kindness and empathy. and I would want them to prioritize keeping my child physically, emotionally, and mentally safe.Three fears I might have when leaving my child and someone else’s care are that my child would not be understood or empathize for, then my child would not be kept safe physically, or that my child would be overlooked or not considered emotionally.

I think a good early learning environment is well planned and includes appropriate materials and areas to meet children’s different developmental needs. Children should be able to use spaces independently, be able to explore and play in a variety of ways.

  • Observing and documenting a child’s development helps Early Learning providers note where a student is at developmentally, and then be able to scaffold and provide the next steps for that student to continue on a healthy continuum of development.

It seems best that at child care children not be on screens as they are most likely getting their max of screen time else where. I think play, being outside, and exploration should be emphasized for kids.

Early learning providers can create a “Serve and return” environment in early learning classrooms through sharing the focus, support and encouragement, naming it, taking turns, and practicing endings and beginnings. When we share the focus, we pay attention to what the child is paying attention to. We can support and encourage through responsive facial expressions and verbal encouragement. We name it by naming what a child is seeing, doing, or feeling. This gives the child language to use later. Taking turns back and forth teaches patience, and the ability to work with others. This also gives children time to think, observe and come up with new ideas. Then practice ends and beginnings helps children understand the start and end cues they can give and receive. When we combine these ideas we are able to effectively engage in serve and return interactions to help young children grow and develop!
