One of the biggest tips is to have a routine that you stick to. It can be as simple as having circle time every morning. During this time, make sure to stick to the same activities such as a song of the day, question of the day, calendar, and book of the day.

One way to approach a parent about developmental screening of their child is to prepare and practice the conversation with a coworker. Another way to approach a parent about developmental screening of their child is to provide evidence and local resources during the conversation.

Observing and documenting a child’s development help early learning providers because they can help teachers identify what to teach each child and can track a child’s milestones.

I think that screen time for children in childcare should be minimal because you do not know how much they receive at home. However, if there is screen time in childcare, it should be educational and be no more than 30 min a week.

Early learning providers can create a “learn and serve” environment by providing children with a choice work time. Children have a chance to decide what they want to play with and the time is entirely child directed.

If a parent was late to picking up a child for the third time in the last two weeks, I would remind them about the policy for picking up. I would mention how being late can be detrimental to a child and how them might feel about always being the last child to be picked up.

The WACs convey that diversity and collaboration with the community are essential to high-quality care. When there is collaboration with the community and other partnerships, children have the opportunity to experience many different cultures where diversity is celebrated.

I think that we change our views as we have more experiences and learn more about ourselves and what we believe is important. I think experiences can change our persepectives

1. What did you discover about the WACs while completing the activity? I discovered that the WACs are incredibly long and there is a lot of different regulations for licensed childcare.
2. Were you surprised by any of the WACs? One of the WACs that surprised me was the one about exempted programs.
3. Can you see how the WACs will influence your day-to-day practice in caring for children? Why or why not? I see the WACs influencing my day-to-day practice in caring for children because it will provide children with a more positive learning environment.
