There are multiple ways but one of my favorites is the feeling dot video and books. In these books they state that feelings are like dots that come to visit us but are not us. There are other ways to do this such as having a chart of faces that show different emotions.

Child first always is the principle that I abide by. Therefore if I suspected a child of being abused I would first notify my lead to see if the lead has noted that this child is being abused. I would then notify the head of school and then CPS.

My biggest worry about keeping children safe currently is the world that we live in and the social-political climate. School shootings have gone from something out of the norm to something to be expected, and that terrifies me when it comes to keeping the children safe.

My advice is the sandwich technique when communicating with families pertaining to their child. Begin with positive, then the truth of the meeting, then follow with positive. It is imperative to form a base relationship with families, this can be done through pick up and drop off. Remaining present and intentional in conversations is a must.

I believe that is very important for everything in the environment to be at the child’s height. The environment should be clean, beautiful, warm, and welcoming. There should be specific areas of the classroom for specific learning areas such as reading, math, sensorial, etc.

Prepare yourself for the discussion by going over a script of what to say with a coworker. Provide the family with documentation of your observations, and then with a referral to seek additional resources.

It is important to observe children as each child is vastly different from the other. When observing a child you can learn about how they learn, the functions of their behaviors, and more. It is through documentation that you are able to log data on these individual pieces that you are observing about a child.

I did not find anything surprising about the WACs I felt like they were all important items to note. I can see how the WACs will influence my day too day as I am more aware of the principles, and ideals for being a childhood educator. As well as, the correct verbiage to use, and to remain mindful of who your audience is.

Being a professional to me means being a specialist in your field. It is important for early child care educators to be interested in growth, empathetic, understanding, and communicative.
