It is important to take into account the individual needs of your children. Meal times, naps, outdoor time, circle are all important aspects to keep consistent so the children have some security and predictability. I personally also believe it is important for regular art activities to be integrated into this schedule. Depending on the group of children, perhaps it would be appropriate to structure other themed activities so you can best aid in their healthy development.

Open spaces with good lines of sight are important for child safety. I also think having a wide variety of clearly defined spaces allows for exploration of individualized interests. Each child can feel supported in their unique skills and development.

  • When sharing observations with a caregiver, it is important to rely on facts and present the data you have collected. Be prepared with your findings and open to any feedback. Scripting can also be helpful to anticipate any defensiveness. Having resources ready for families will guide them in towards next steps. Confidentiality and professionalism are key.

  • These practices help early learning providers to better understand a child’s specific development. With this information, we can create an individualized plan that supports the child’s needs and ultimately aids their growth the best.

I think screen time can be helpful in a childcare setting in very limited and regulated instances. Interaction with caregivers and peers is much more valuable to a child’s development.

  • We can use serve and return during free play by asking a child open ended questions about what they would like to play with. Follow their focus and interact with the objects they show interest in.

I would approach the situation with understanding and attempt to figure out why Mrs. Hopkins has been late. Is there additional support needed or would it be best to change schedules? I’d like to work with her to find a better solution. If she is in violation of our state or center expectations, we would have to discuss these expectations clearly to ensure understanding on her part.

    110-300-0160 Promoting acceptance of diversity.

Diverse materials and music are a must in the learning environment. They must demonstrate diversity through cultural groups, age, gender, family structure to represent all children, families and staff. Additionally, bias must be recognized and redirected for both staff and children.

    1. WACs are very thorough and concise, with clear standards and easy to follow language.

    2. I was not all too surprised by any WACs. They all serve an important purpose and are quite necessary.

    3. Yes, I can see that these will influence my day-to-day work in every little facet. The WACs outline proper care and ensure health and safety for the children we interact with.
