You can use tools like a feelings chart or do a body check to point out what the child is feeling and how their body is reacting. By practicing calming techniques and modeling them for the child, they can learn what to do when frustrated or upset.

I communicate and ask for help if needed, perhaps take a short break to realign myself and get back on track. Self care needs to be constant and preventative so this feeling does not arise.

You can be responsive during play by using serve and return. If a child is going through a challenging behavior, be sure to listen and provide comfort. Set healthy limits and lead by example.

MemberJuly 29, 2024 at 5:17 am in reply to: Emotional Release for Early Learning ProvidersI like to use my creativity to release any stress I may have. Whether through drawing, painting, or even just coloring. Sometimes playing a video game or watching a series can help me get my mind off things. I also enjoy taking a walk and focusing on the environment around me.

Be observant and interact with the children in your classroom on their level, following their lead. By using serve and return, you can show you care about their interests and you value their input. Be positive and creative. Make sure the children in your classroom feel seen in your materials and activities.

You can incorporate physical activity into the daily routine. Music and dancing at drop off, an indoor area for gross motor skill development, organized outdoor areas and activities, for example.

Songs and games are an easy way to make healthy habits fun for children. If you demonstrate enjoyment for the children, they can mirror and learn to enjoy the routines, as well.

I am worried about how to proceed in an emergency situation, such as an intruder or a serious playground injury. I am interested in learning more about how to maintain calm and safety in these situations.

A good partnership begins with a strong foundation. Being open and friendly with families on every interaction helps build trust. Providing positive feedback and asking for their opinions ensures you center their expertise. Maintaining professionalism allows for difficult conversation and appropriate resolution.

I would want my child’s provider to be educated, attentive, and sensitive to my child’s needs. I would worry about my child’s safety, whether or not they are being challenged intellectually, and whether or not they are interacting with others appropriately.

For example if a child is interested in paints, we can structure a painting activity, asking meaningful questions about what they are making or why they chose the materials they did. Following their interests, we can uplift their development and guide them towards more meaningful interactions with the world.
