I help children recognize and manage their emotions by naming them, validating them, modeling self-control, teaching calming strategies, using books or games, and praising their efforts.

Deep breathing helps you relax, and taking short breaks to stretch or walk can recharge your energy. Exercise, writing your feelings in a journal, and practicing mindfulness or meditation can reduce tension. Talking with colleagues or friends about your experiences and setting aside personal time for hobbies or relaxation also helps. Taking care of yourself allows you to stay patient and connect better with children.

Healthy habits can be fun when we turn them into games, songs, or creative activities. Involving children in preparing food, moving through dancing or outdoor play, and using rewards like stickers helps them learn while having fun. It’s also important for caregivers to model good habits.

That means:Stay calm and objective – Focus on facts and observations, not assumptions.Document what I see or hear – Record details like dates, injuries, behaviors, or what the child says.Report it right away – Contact my supervisor or director, and then report to Child Protective Services (CPS) or the appropriate agency, as required by law.Do not investigate myself – My role is to report, not to confirm abuseSupport the child – Provide reassurance, safety, and continue to treat the child with care and respect. In Washington State, all licensed childcare providers are mandatory reporters, meaning they are legally required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect.

My biggest concern regarding children’s health and safety is making sure they are protected from accidents, illnesses, and risky situations, both inside the classroom and outdoors. This includes constant supervision, a clean and safe environment, preventing falls or injuries, and providing proper care in case of medical emergencies. I’m also concerned about their emotional well-being, as feeling safe and supported is essential for their development.

To have a good relationship with parents, it’s important to communicate often, listen and respect their ideas, and be honest and reliable. It also helps to involve them in classroom activities and handle problems calmly.

I would want my child’s caregiver to keep them safe, cared for with love, and have chances to learn. My fears would be that my child gets hurt, doesn’t get enough attention, or feels sad or anxious.
