All components that I think require for a good early learning environment should to be safe for developmental and nurturing activities, and support kids’ social skills with their fellows, and these components need to be focus on individual needs.

For sharing our observations with families, first we need to make sure that is not our personal opinion, and we have some evidence about our observations, second we need to talk co-workers and the director of our program to find out how to share in an effective way with families.

Observing and documenting a child’s development helps early learning providers to understand each child’s interests, needs, and skills, which allows them to plan the curriculum and care to support those needs. Observation allows providers to see a child’s development and growth during the different stages of their age, it helps providers understand a child’s interactions and behaviors.

In today’s life, we can see kids always have tablets/mobile everywhere while they are with their families, so I prefer not to give screen time in early learning centers because in this age group kids really need to have physical activities to help them develop their brain.

I would have a respectful conversation with the Mrs. Hopkins to understand the reason for her being late, and respectfully remind her about the center’s policy regarding closing time, and picking up her kid on time.

WAC 110-300-0085 states that “an early learning provider must communicate with families to identify individual children’s developmental goals. Communication with families and children are a very important and effective part of child development. By having communication, we can understand individual children and acknowledge what they need, and what situation they are going through.

Non- discrimination is very crucial in learning process, and ” WAC-110-300-0030 addresses non-discrimination by stating that early learning programs are “places of public accommodation… and must not discriminate… on basis of race, creed, color, national origin, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, class, age, religion or disability.”). Caregivers and early learning program providers must consider this law as one of top priorities.

2.What big messages do the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration?

Considering diversity is very important in an early learning program because it’s the beginning of a student’s life in a society, and each action of caregivers will strongly affect their emotions, and these effects will stay with them forever. State law requires child care employees to honor all children’s race, religion, culture, gender, physical ability and family structure, and to provide families with information on their child’s progress in the center. Providing all information about their child’s progress with families can include their families effectively in their child’s thrive, education, and development.

3. Yes, several of the WACs surprised me, especially the ones about qualifications and staff-to-child levels.

4. Yes, I can see how the WACs will influence my day-to-day practice as they provide clear guidelines and expectations for ensuring the safety and well-being of children in my care. By following the WACs, I can ensure that I am providing quality care that meets or exceeds state standards.
