I would highlight the safety protocols we have if a child needed a mental break/got overwhelmed. As well as the incident reports we provide for families if there is a bruise, cut, or noticeable injury.

A single-level crib with a firm mattress should be used for a 2-month-old infant. The crib should be rid of toys, blankets, or anything other than a fitted sheet on the mattress.

The best way to let kids express their emotions is by letting them speak and try to translate the way they are feeling. If a child is not up to speaking, letting them sit out by themselves and process what they need to in silence is also a great way to let them express emotions.

I think there are a multitude of situations where protocol is useful. Any injuries, medical emergencies, evacuations, fires, or physical altercations are uncommon and could use the guidance of professional advisement.

Creative ways to get children engaged could mean creating new games and activities for them, or searching online or in curriculum that has suggestions for new ideas or games.

  • Observing and documenting a child’s development helps centers because when you know a child’s specific behaviors, likes/dislikes, emotional patterns, and interests, you can provide a better curriculum aimed toward the child, and creat activities that will better enrich their development. You will also be more prepared to handle emotional or physical outbursts should one occur.

I think we can provide serve and return environments for the children by putting them in groups that have an activity or goal. Giving them playdough or some markers and paper, or any simple activity that allows them to imagine and create, with the ability to share with the caregivers or their fellow peers creates the strongest serve and return environment.

    1. WAC 110–300-0160, Promoting Acceptance of Diversity

    2. The WAC gives a message to accept diversity and appreciate what people of different cultures have to offer to the center’s program. It advises to listen to others of different cultures and appreciate their experiences.

    1. I learned that there are a lot more WACS than I originally anticipated there being, and also that the WACS is fundamental for decision-making and conducting yourself ethically in an early developmental setting

    2. I do not think I was surprised by any of the WACs since each one that I read made sense when dealing with violent children, unthought-of situations, and regulations were fairly standard.

    3. I can definitely see how the WACS will form my day-to-day process at work because the WACS acts as a foundation for proper childcare and orderly conduct.
