My biggest worry is school shootings and being unable to protect the kids, harmful social media, and bullying, and I’m most interested in finding ways to prevent or know what to do in these situations

Plan to make the routine fun for the kid to enjoy while also getting something healthy out of it.

Make it so the child wants to do this routine

The important components to having good early learning are, very high quality of care, the environment should be nurturing, serve and return techniques, be open-minded about cultures, and have a plan

Plan ahead what you want to have a discussion about with the parents, and have valid gathered evidence to show

  • Observing and documenting a child’s development can help early learning providers to have better knowledge of the child in their care and also to make sure they have the ability to direct the child in the correct manner to healthy development.

I don’t think screen time can be terrible but it’s definitely not good at the same time, when I think it’s good would be music or stimulating videos, but nothing else. I think too much screen time for younger audiences is unhealthy and is not the best route for certain growth developments.

I think early learning providers can create a serve-and-return environment by, having things that will spark excitement and toys that draw attention in order for them to show interest so you can react in a supportive manner. Have facial expressions and support encourage when they are showing interest in things.

I would have a sit down with the parent explaining that we understand when life happens and whatnot but also let them know the realization that it may affect their child when they are constantly late to pick them up after school, it may make the child think differently of the parent such as am I being abandoned or they don’t quite understand the situation entirely but it’s not a positive interaction either. You do want to find out the reasoning for the lateness and try to have empathy and create new paths on how to solve the situation if you can, but if the pattern continues you’d probably need to have a serious conference and further detail about what to do from there.

    2. The big message that WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration is, that in order to make children feel represented and seen in the classroom your program must practice things including their culture this will make everyone feel appreciated and want to put themselves forward to be involved.

  • 1. What I discovered about WAC after doing the activity was that I’ve gained a lot more knowledge about its guidelines and that there are many resources out there if you were to need help with anything!

    2. I was mainly surprised by how important their guidelines were, and how many resources are out there

    3. I can definitely see how WAC would influence my day-to-day practice with caring for children, it helped me gain more consciousness towards giving high-quality care to them and giving me a clear resource on how to prominently always have a secure and healthy learning environment.
