My biggest worry about keeping children healthy and safe is factors that are out of my control like interest usage, gun violence, and predators.

I am most interested in learning how to make education meaningful and safe despite these outside factors.

My advice for creating and maintaining a good partnership between caregivers/parents and childcare providers is to have open communication, honesty, trust, and a goal of working together to raise and educate a successful child.

Tips or advice on creating and maintaining a daily schedule for children are…

-Post it in the classroom where all students can see it.

-Provide visuals so students can connect activities to the words printed.

-Make it simple and easy for students to follow and understand.

-Have a system in place where students remove or check off certain events/activities as they are completed throughout the day.

-Young children cannot tell time so it is important to follow routines that allow children to know what is coming up next!

  • Some good ways to approach a parent about the developmental screening of their child is to craft a discussion script with a coworker beforehand to receive feedback, refer to guidelines when discussing red flags, have resources ready to offer parents as a next step and be respectful and ready for any negative or defensive reactions from parents.
