saftey and trust, nurturing relationships, support for growing and learning

  • using pretend play, inducing imagination, letting children have the chance to explore on their own before we come in and help. open ended questions and movement based games.

  • associate tasks throughout the day with songs and make a routine that they can see coming with something like a nickname for the day or a special key word for where they will go! gives them something to look forward to.

Some components I think that are extremely important are open communication. Its tricky to understand how to do that given the diverse range of ages but this induces saftey, trust, relationship, and a healthy learning enviroment.

  • talk in a calm manner, not attacking the parent, and possibly with a supervisor. Mention how the childs academic and social behavior is starting to be affected by potential screen time. Explain how screentime management is detrimental to a childs growth, and provide examples of how you see this in the classroom.

  • Observing a child development helps early learning providers by allowing providers to help understand each child unique learning styles and personalities that can become monumental in helping reach milestones as well as track progress of how children are growing in real time.

I don’t think screen time should be used in any childcare facility. I think it is a tool we cannot run from given our day and age. I do think it does have good aspects especially with at home use where parents can use screens as a tool. However I do not think screen time should be a treat for being “good” or normalized at all.

Early child educators can provide a “serve and return” enviroment by being attentive and engaged throughout the day, noting when kids are learning new things or discovering new ideas.

I would have a kind, productive conversation with the mother explaining that this may hurt the Childs ego being the last to be picked up. I would explain how this may make their child feel then ask if theres anything we can do to help accommodate her hours or offer an alternative pickup person. I would be understanding if she has a plan but also make it clear that this should be changed.
