What are some of the best ways to help children recognize their emotions and control their responses?

Some the best ways to recognize their emotions is thru a feeling chart, ask them how they are feeling by the faces on the chart, Letting them express themselves to you and what they might be feeling and you coping and reassuring them that their feelings are valid, could make them feel that they are being heard. Another way would be “body check” if you can tell that they might be upset let them know by saying ” I can see that your sad because you have your shoulders hunched one, tell what’s wrong and how I can help you feel better”

Something I would do is, go to a trusted person or co worker and talk about it and what advice they would give me. Let there be communication and let it out, take a minute or two to breathe where too because sometimes keeping things inside can lead to having a one time explosion of everything.

Share some examples of responsive exchanges you may want to use in everyday interactions with children.

Some examples of this may be to interact with whether you play, have one on one, make sure you make them feel safe and that you are someone they can trust, try to be their emotional support if they need as well. Make them feel comfortable and belonged.

I would first greet and welcome them into the classroom and show the family around by showing them where they do all their activities, where toys are kept and slowly go into showing them how the classroom is setup to be child proof with safety locks from getting into cabinet, medical cabinet is located as well as showing them, sanitation sinks, exit door and signs, bathrooms

If I ever suspected a child being abused or neglected, first thing I would before jumping into conclusions is first bring it up to my supervisor or manager, see if they notice anything and from there proceed with the following protocols.

Three things that I want from my Childs Provider is

    1. Cared.

    2. Treated with respect

    3. Make sure they are safe at all times

Three things that I fear if it were my child, it would be

    1. Being bullied

    2. Not being included on activities

    3. Being ignored

  • Creative ways to get the children engaged by asking more in depth questions, it gets them to think critically, and helps them solve problems as well as you get them to respond back.
