We have a feeling chart, emotional pictures, and books that talk about our feelings to help our students identify their feelings. Sharing circle to listen to each student how they are feeling today. I also learned and taught some sign language about emotions. Use colors associated with emotions to help our students express and identify their feelings.

I would use muppet and act for situations and ask kids what would be their response. Then I will act it out different responses and let the children find out the best solution or provide them with other possibilities that they didn’t think of to respond to.

I like to walk to work which helps me gather my thoughts for the day and when I walk home I take that 10 minutes to destress myself and clear out the mess in my brain. Listening to music and watching a silly movie on a day off. Don’t bring work home. On the spot when I am dealing with a child, I would take a deep breath and count to 10 before I move on. Ask a coworker to take over and come back to it.

I like to greet them when they arrive and give my attention and care to them while they wash their hands. At table time or free choice, I will find some students and play with them for about 5-10 minutes. Snack time is also a great time to social with kids. Ask about what they like to eat or what they like to do when no in school.

I like music and body movement. According to the theme I like to pick fun books, select a song with movement, and play some easy games. Sign language, a few magic tricks can also get kids engaged in learning.

I like to do hand-washing songs when they are washing their hands. I do activities like healthy choices of snacks with Hungry Caterpillar books and games. We also teach about going to the bathroom, potty, wiping, flushing, and washing our hands.

I will then give them our handbook which states what is our policy when kids are sick.

When we have kids that can hit on impulse, it makes me worry that I didn’t stop them in time and other children are serously hurt.

Our school encourages families to come to us whenever they want to talk about their concerns or questions regarding school or their children. Families are invited to the classroom as guest speakers, volunteers, and guests to holiday parties. At drop off and pick up teachers are present for conversation or questions.

We are learning the letter C for construction theme week. I ask if students want to write C with their finger, elbow, or their butt. Some laughed and said I am silly, but the highest vote goes to butt, so we all stand up and use our butt to write the letter C.
A memory game that lets students look at the book that I am about to read and ask simple questions like what animal is on the book cover. What color are their hats?
