When I start to feel compassion fatigue I book a day off or a weekend trip just so I can have a break from reality and give myself time to regulate myself so that I can be my nest self at work. sometimes I book an appointment for my therapist or talk to a trusted friend or my partner.

I think its good to have reminders of guidance policies is always a good idea, I think that it is a reminder for teachers and caregivers of how they should behave and to show parents of the policies that are in place

You can make healthy habits fun by being excited about it yourself, congratulating kids on doing it for themselves and making them prideful in their accomplishment of the habit, if that doesn’t work you can make it a game with some sort of reward system.

The safety procedures I would highlight is any cabinet that should not be accessed by the children having a lock or childproof mechanism on it, child friendly furniture, any outlets being covered, open spaces and unblocked pathways to help eliminate falls or accidents.

If I suspected a child in my care was a victim of abuse I would report it to CPS as I am a mandated reporter, I would of course not make assumptions based on prejudices or anything like that only based on the Childs behavior or any warning signs of abuse.

My biggest worry about keeping the children in my care safe is anything out of my control such as school shooting or anything of that nature or being distracted by other children and a child accidentally seriously harms themself.

My advice for creating and maintaining positive relationship with parents is to always create a welcoming and open environment so that if you do have to have a hard conversation that environment is already established, be clear and concise about the problem, listen to them and being open-minded and empathetic
