An early learning provider can make heathy habits fun by engaging in simple activities such as taking walks outdoors, dancing in the Movement Room, and encouraging sports (kicking the ball to one another, throwing a ball, jumping rope, bouncy balls). Create fun food board games as a means to teach children.

Q1. If you suspect a child is a victim of abuse or neglect, what are your next steps?

    A. You must contact CPS if you even suspect that certain injuries or bruises may be accidental. Also, you must contact CPS if you see signs of emotional or sexual abuse or physical neglect.

Even if you have made a report earlier, you must report each new injury or incident.

DO NOT attempt to interview the child or to manage the situation yourself.

November 4, 2023 at 11:57 pm in reply to: Keeping children healthy and safe

Q1. What is your biggest worry about keeping children healthy and safe?

Keeping the children healthy and safe is a part of my responsibility as a caregiver. But it is also the parent’s responsibility. Sometimes they are under stress, job/home life, and send their children to school when they are unwell and should have been kept home. The unwell child can get the other children sick, as well as the staff.

Q2. What are you most interested in learning?

A2. I am most interested in learning more in-depth of how to keep the children safe, and healthy (emotionally, physically, and socially) their over all well-being.

Trust: Once trust is established, a positive relationship can deepen into one of shared decision-making, paving the way for positive conflict resolution. A good partnership between caregivers/parents and childcare providers is based on confidentiality, kindness, and respect. Open communication, positive communication, and involvement are also key elements.

The routine and schedule is vital. The children need and want to know what to expect and when. If the schedule is to be changed it should be known to the children so there will be no confusion.

The child care program should be safe and secure, It should be effectively laid out for quiet spaces and interactive spaces for more stimulating activities.

  • First, working with a co-worker to script your discussion is a good way to start.

Good documentation of your observations and knowledge of typical child development will help you to share the information objectively, (based on evidence, not opinion).

Knowing the local resources for referral is essential to help families understand what their next steps are.

  • Through careful and intentional observation the early learning provider will be able to learn about each child’s development strengths and challenges. With on-going careful and intentional observation of the children, the care giver will obtain the information needed for documentation. Then, with the information/documentation in place, a developmentally appropriate program that adapts for these variations among the children can be developed. Now the early learning provider can provide quality care and comply with the WAC requirements too.

I agree that screen time should not be utilized at childcare programs. Children learn best by playing and interacting with their peers and caregiver.

  • Early learning caregivers can provide a “serve and return” environment in their classroom by interacting with the children in their care. This interaction happens when children reach out to adults and the adult, caregiver responds in kind.

Meet her with a professional , respectful approach: Tell her you are glad to see her, and that her child did a great job waiting for her. Respectfully, mention she must be having a long couple of weeks with work. BE EMPATHETIC! (Most likely she will respond she is. And she is sorry to be late.) Gently, and respectfully, tell her the policy’s pick-up time. Also, tell her if she calls, we could work together to work with her regarding extended hours arrangement.

Note: Care provider must document the dates and times late. Tell the front office.

October 24, 2023 at 7:18 am in reply to: Trainer Monitored Discussion – Diversity and Colloboration

Q.1 The WAC that addresses Diversity is 110-300-0160. It states an early learning provider must provide culturally and racially diverse learning opportunities. Diverse Learning opportunities must be demonstrated by the provider’s curriculum, activities, and materials that represent all children, families and staff.

The WAC that addresses Collaboration with families is WAC 110-300-0085

    (2) An early learning provider must attempt to obtain information from each child’s family about the child’s development, behavior, health, linguistic, cultural and social and any other relevant information.

(3d) Give families opportunities to share their language and culture in the early learning program.

    Question 2

The big message(s) is that all providers must provide Cultural Diversity throughout their entire program. Thus, providing an environment where all children feel safe, respected, and accepted, as well as respecting and accepting all others who are different from themselves.
