my biggest worry for keeping children safe is recognizing or having to report signs of grooming or molestation that may be happening to a child in my care.

Ive been a nanny for the past three years and whenever starting a new working relationship with a new family, i always try to get ahead of common issues by discussing them before they even start. For example, most children have a hard time being handed off to a new nanny at first, so i discuss that with families before my first day, let them know what typically works, listen to what they think will be best for their child, and we make a plan for how we will handle the transition together. That way, neither party i surprised if an issue does come up, and neither party will make any decisions that may upset or undermine the other or make the situation harder for the child.

1. id want open communication so i always know whats going on with my child within the classroom, know the providers will listen to my concerns or answer my questions, and will help me when needed. Id also want to make sure the providers respect and uphold the values and beliefs i have and teach my children, and follow that through to their teaching of my children.
Some fears i might have are that they will teach my child beliefs or attitudes i dont agree with, that they wont support how i parent or will judge me for my choices in parenting without good reason, or that they wont communicate and ill be left out of the loop about whats going on within daycare hours and how my child is doing in daycare.

I think one important factor is having the daily schedule enlarged and printed and with pictures that describe the activities hung at a low level in an accessible spot in the classroom where children can see whats going to be happening throughout the day and know what to expect.

I think its very important to have a safe, cozy, and quiet area for when children may be upset, overstimulated, or just need a break.
I also find areas for pretend play/role play to be important, such as areas with dress up opportunities and props, as this is an important way children learn and process through playing.
Free creative play areas are also important such as an area for wooden blocks children can freely build and create with.
These are just a few of many important components and areas.

I also think its important to bring the WA developmental milestones guidelines info to directly reference so the parents know i am basing my concerns on facts and not just opinion. It is also important to be objective and non-judgmental as well as supportive and empathetic, as parents may be scared, angry, or defensive. I would assure parents that nothing is WRONG with their child, their child is wonderful, and i cannot diagnose their child, but that i care for the child and want whats best for them, just as they do, and some additional resources might help their child. I would also have all information about intervention resources as well as screening resources on hand.

I dont judge parents if they feel the need to use screens occasionally in moderation at home if they need to get something done or need a break, but i dont think its appropriate for childcare providers to use screens within their care as their focus should be interacting with the children and helping their development.

They can choose how to play or interact and learn alot about and from your reactions and the way you respond, and its also a great way to connect with kids and demonstrate care and love for them and their interests, that you want to spend time with them and do what they like doing.

If theres not, i would try to kindly explain why its important to be on time and brainstorm ways we can fix the problem together that work for both parties, such as another family member picking up.

1. I was familiar with most of the wacs having recently reviewed them for other trainings and schoolwork, but i always apppreciate how detailed they are and how they cover all bases to ensure the safety or children.
2. i wasnt particularly surprised by any but was reminded of some important safety things that made me look around my home and realize how many things wouldnty be compliant or safe is i were to run a daycare out of my home, such as blind strings, having wardrobes secured to walls, etc.
3. I definitely wil be mroe aware of certain safety issues than i wouldve been otherwise, as many things that may strike someone as harmless are not compliant with the code so its important to rely on the code to make sure everything is safe for children within the classroom.
