  • Yes if you’re in the case of an emergency or a serious incident.

  • A single-level crib with a firm snuggly mattress that touches either side of the crib to prevent the infant from becoming entrapped in between the mattress and the crib. Each child must have their own sperate bedding that is stored without touching other bedding.

The first thing I would do is to make sure I am creating a welcoming environment for the parents. I would then start by showing them our classrooms and some of the activities at our center. Then I would show the or sanitizing stations and our kitchen and how we serve our food. I would also show them all our security features, and the I would show them our outside area and all the safety features we have to insure no child gets hurt.

I worry a lot about internet access and also just their overall safety while going to school with all the gun violence in our country today. I also worry about them not being fully supervised and getting hurt, or what types of germs and sicknesses they’re exposed to around other kids.

  • Find activities that allow the child to learn more about themselves and ask meaningful questions that allow children to wonder and use their imagination to respond with more than just yes or no questions.

fun and enriching activities and toys, warm and nurturing environment, hands on activities, one on one interaction with staff and children

  • Make sure to prepare and the go over a script with a co-worker to help make sure the way you are addressing the family is correct. Make sure to have your collected observations and data ready to provide for the family. And always make sure any conversation regarding a child’s progress and development is ALWAYS kept confidential between only the parents and approved co teachers.

  • Observing and documenting a child’s behaviors helps a provider dive deeper into their personality, needs, likes, dislikes which ultimately helps us cater our activities and program to meet all of their developmental needs and modify our curriculum to the individual child.

Personally, I feel that young kids should not have regular access to screentime as we can see it has adverse effects on their development which could be damaging. I think that if a parent wants to allow their child to have screentime at home under their supervision that is fine, but in a childcare setting children should not have access to screen time.

  • By following the five steps of serve and return 1. share the focus 2. support and encourage 3. name it 4. take turns back and forth 5. practice endings and beginnings. These are all ways to respond to a child and encourage them and their development.

I would first tell her that I understand we all have obstacles that come up in our day to day that are out of control, but being late not only affects the staff who have to stay past closing, but how it affects her child when she may feel upset or worried that her mom isn’t here on time and that she is the last kid left. I would then see if there was some type of arrangement, we could work out on days that she is going to be late, such as having another friend or family member pick up the child and watch her until she is able to get her.

Which WACs address diversity and collaboration with families?

    WAC 100-300-0333- Representing the diversity found in the early learning program and society, including gender, age, language, and abilities, while being respectful of cultural traditions, values, religion and beliefs of enrolled families;

WAC 110-300-0330- An early learning provider must work to
maintain positive relationships with children by
using consistent guidance techniques to help
children learn. Guidance techniques must adapt an
    early learning program’s environment, routines,
and activities to a child’s strengths, developmental
level, abilities, culture, community, and relate to the
    child’s behavior.

    WAC 110-300-0305

    WAC 110-300-0315

The big message that the WACs give regarding diversity and collaboration is that it is very necessary to meet the needs of every child culturally. It is important to create a nurturing environment the includes everybody and where our differences are celebrated. It is important to collaborate with parents to better understand how to meet the needs of the child as well.

    1. I learned about how many requirements there actually are and tha tI must be compliant with and aware of.

    2. I honestly was not surprised by any of the WACs because they were all reasonable and seemed necessary for the safety and well-being of the children.

    3. It is very visible ow the WACs will affect how I care for the children because there a lot of rules and requirements that are necessary for me to follow and understand.
