A great way to help children regulate themselves it to help give them vocabulary for emotions. This can also be to have regular checkins with children throughout the day to help them recognize how they’re feeling.

I meditate in the morning and have a breathing prayer that I pray while doing a deep breathing exercise. This brings focus, calm, and encouragement to stressful situations.

The advice I would give would be to ask good questions both to the child, and to the family/care givers of the child. This will help you get to know the child and help him/her feel seen and heard and valued. Specific, positive feedback is also an awesome way to build connection.

Definitely…in emergencies, or when communicating parents actions that have been taken, or giving parents an idea of what the guidelines are.

Playing lots of games with children that are both kinesthetic and informative/reviewing concepts. Singing songs with motions, playing group games outside.

You can make healthy habits fun by creating fun songs to sing while washing hands.

When giving a prospective parent a tour, I would be sure to highlight the warm inviting environment, and that it is centered on the needs of the children. I would also ask the parent if they have any questions and concerns and point out the things we do to help care givers feel confident in leaving their children at our care center.

I would first write down my observations objectively, then I would talk with the child to get an idea of what may have happened and record that conversations, then talk with a supervisor about it. Then, if we would feel it’s necessary, call CPS.

My biggest worry is just the unknown and things I didn’t think of before. I worry about not acting quickly enough.

Keep an open line of communication while still setting healthy boundaries. Be sure to ask lots of questions first, listen, then come up with ideas to solve problems or create pathways together.

Start by having them ask questions first, then wonder about those questions together.

The advice I have is to thoughtfully create a schedule that will meet the need of the children in your program, but then observe how that schedule is meeting their needs and be flexible within that schedule.

I think that a good early learning environment should have access to an outdoor space. This is so helpful for students’ development and wellbeing.

An approach that I like to have is asking the caregiver if they have noticed any of the observations present first, that way it puts you both at the same level, then if the parents haven’t noticed the observations, then I could go on to say what I’ve been noticing at school.

Observing and documenting a child’s development helps early learning providers to understand where the child’s readiness is to learn new things, and then informs their instruction or scaffolding. It can also be a tool to help communicate growth with caregivers.

I find that the more screen time a child has, the less creative he/she is. If a child has a screen at his/her fingertips whenever he/she gets bored, then the child has less opportunity for creativity.
